One reason I got this tarp is you could use a wide whitewater paddle in its pockets. You could not do this with the Parawing with its diamond shape one would have to sit dead center to get any rain protection.

Here I figured out how to attach the tarp to my kayak, making a dry area right next to my van. The picnic table was already wet so I decided not to use it. I think the tarp would stay up if disconnected from the kayak, with proper tensioning of the other supports.
