Republic or Democracy...?

A Republic is a system, of government characterized by the rule of law.

American Democracy - Government OF the People, BY the People, and FOR the People - exists
only within the framework of law which is constituted by the Republic.

Thus, America must be BOTH a Democracy AND a Republic;
otherwise it will not be AMERICAN.
