# 11 ~ Smile

This is by no means meant to trivialise one of the worst days in modern history.
I cried as long and as hard as the rest of the world in 2001, but I hope the
beautiful words of that wonderful song may help on this the 8th anniversary of the tragedy.

I like the symbolism of the egg too.

A touching tribute and a good idea to choose those fragile eggs...

Great tribute Laine. My brother was on his way to a meeting at the WTC that morning and was a few blocks away when it happened. Because the phone system was overloaded he could not phone for a few hours to say he was all right. He was so lucky. Will never forget this.

Living in the north east, this day always hits me hard. Thank you Laine for remembering such a somber day in our history.
Your photo brings a smile to my face. :-)

I was at work! At 15.00 (9.00 am in the US) the news was spread and the TV was put on.
Together we watched in horror until very late.

Your tribute is beautiful and touching.

Life is fragile and has to be carried on carefully.. this comes to my mind seeing that eggs, they are sold well protected. Who´s protecting us? But we smile! Thank you for that picture!

A wonderful tribute. I think that Joel Meyerowitz's book Aftermath will be by my side today.

Fitting tribute Laine. Eggs are very apt as they signify new life, new hope and new beginnings.

It was so unreal.

We were in Provence, France on 9/11/2001 and were in shock when we realized that what we were seeing was not a movie, but a horrible tragedy playing out before our eyes. We feared for our country, our children and were scared to death to step on that plane to return home. Everyone on the plane cheered when we touched down in Dallas. Thank you Laine for this tribute... we will never forget those whose lives were lost and those who fought to save them...

Yeah, it is a sad day to remember and I know I will feel it tomorrow as the rest of the world does. A beautiful tribute to the tragedy. I pray it never happens again!

We had a golf date in upper New York state set for September 12, 2001. Mid morning on the 11th I get a phone call from one of the foursome who asked if my TV is on. I replied my TV isn't even plugged in. Plug it in he said and hung up. I spent the rest of the day, like so many others, in abject horror, glued to the TV. As you can guess we didn't golf.
There aren't many pointillists left nice art.
