The Rana catesbeiana was first brought to B.C. decades ago for commercial frog-leg production.
Introduced into Beaver and Elk Lakes in the 1960s, they have migrated throughout southern Vancouver Island
and are now found as far north as Campbell River.
The baritone call of the Bullfrog resembles the mooing of a cow and can be heard during the night or day.
This little fellow's harmless appearance is deceptive because when full grown, he'll be a voracious predator
who will ambush and eat that will fit into it's very large mouth,
including spiders, snakes, fish, rodents, ducklings, baby turtles, birds and even smaller frogs!
Further information on the attempt to control the spread of this predator on Vancouver Island can be found at http://www.bullfrogcontrol.com/
