Martin Lake Basin

On our first day in Cooke City Steve got an early start to hike to Martin Lake from the Clay Butte trailhead (round trip 12.5 miles).

While Steve was contending with hiking at altitude, Dad was being thwarted in his attempt to drive the "jeep trail" to Goose Lake. Plan B took him to Broadwater ponds where he caught twelve brook trout (catch and release). Later in the afternoon we would pay our first visit to Beartooth Lake, located right off the Beartooth highway. It's a pretty lake with Beartooth Butte as a backdrop and great shore access (important when you have a toddler that loves throwing rocks in the water).
