Day 26

Moutain Home, Idaho

Sept 1, Tue – day 26
Mountain Home, Idaho
Weather - mild mid 70s (23C) and clear with a breeze

Waking to the music of a few hundred geese flying over is a nice way to start the day. As I walked over to the washrooms (bathrooms) I saw the neighbor’s ducks were out for a walk with the family, ˝ mile walk actually. As it turns out the ducks only walked 100 yards or so, then were carried the remainder of the way. On their return, it was splish-splash, swimming time in the pool.

We took the day off from photo shooting, just relaxing and enjoying the park…..until the deer come by late in the afternoon and put on a demonstration on how to drink out of the lawn sprinklers. Interesting adaptation of the sprinkling system…I must have taken well over 100 shots that will prove that fact!

After the ‘wildlife’ shoot was over and dinner was finished, it was time to start packing up for the trip tomorrow, a somewhat dirty and sweaty process. Once everything was dumped, unhooked, loaded, etc., I headed to the park shower building for a much needed rinse.

As I started up the steps to the building it was apparent that some kind of horny toad, or a toad/frog of some kind, was stuck to the outside wall just below the light, getting it’s fill of moths and other unlucky bugs (time is 9:30 pm-dark). After finishing a good shower I came out of the building and the toad was still there. Ah-ha…a nighttime photo op….so off I go to get my camera. On the way back, camera in hand, I was startled by a black creature that seemed to be hopping across the road. As soon as I made contact with the road again, I set the camera’s shutter speed for 1/1000, hit the flash button, used a little flashlight to locate the creature for focus and ZAM, I got a nice big toad. Whew, this night time shooting was getting exciting….on to the showers….too late, the dang thing left the area, but a smaller, nicer looking frog was there, so I shot him four times and that was the end of another full day. The adventure continues…
