Yes, Gerald, these walls are--as you say--"really thick"; but, no, this is not a castle: the reason for the solid construction of *almost all* buildings in this area is that most villages of the Engadin valley are situated at some 1700 meters above sea level (hence my titles) with accordingly cold winters. The painted ornaments on the facades, OTOH, are typical for the region and the reason for my taking lots of pictures of windows and doors there. -- db.
