Day 24

near Idaho Falls, Idaho

Aug 30, Sun – day 24
Burns, Oregon to Mountain Home, Idaho
Weather – getting hotter again then to end the day with a nice high 70s (28C)

We’ve been lucky with the weather during this section of the trip. As we pull into Idaho, on I-84 east of Ontario, Oregon, to stop at the rest area, we find that yesterday the temperature was 100F or 38C in the Boise area. Today, not so hot and when we pull in to the RV park (elevation near 5000 ft) the temperature has dropped to the high 70s (28C) from low 90s (34C) yesterday. That was great for us, we’re not hot weather lovers and had had about as much as we could take during our stay in White City.

We spent a bit of time worrying that we would get lost and not be able to find the RV park, but with a little help from the gas attendant when we filled up Gus, we headed out feeling a little more confident. We basically drove right to it, 23 miles northeast of Mountain Home, down a three mile dusty dirt/gravel road and there it was, an oasis on the top of a hill in the middle of sage brush county. A lovely spot, nice and quiet, with the morning and evening fly by of hundreds of Canadian geese (honk-honk), the cooing of gazillions of morning doves, the evening cricket serenade, and a soft rustling of the wind easing through the trees in the park.

Gus has been set up, Racine has fixed dinner, and we can hardly get off the internet/e-mails trying to catch up from a week of cyber-space deprivation...although we did take just a short drive to check out the evening photo opportunities. We discovered we were in an open range area and met a few of our four legged neighbors during our expedition. The adventure continues…
