Day 18

August 24 - Monday
Rogue Valley, Oregon
Weather - cool at night, hot during the day – mid 90’s (35C)

Today we went looking for turkeys, the bird kind. During the quest we did see some wild turkeys (not too close though) and also some deer. Carla, our guide, took us up into the hills surrounding the Rogue Valley and we travelled all the way to the Applegate Dam / Reservoir. It is an earthen dam that was built 1976 in an effort to protect the lower watershed from flooding and it took nearly four years to complete. We took a number of shots including some the ‘octopus’ stumps on the lake shore.

As we went back down to the valley floor we visited the Applegate River (McKee) Covered Bridge, built in 1917. You can find the history of the bridge HERE We were surprised to find out that Oregon has one of the largest collections of covered bridges in the country (50) and the largest in the western states.

Other sightings during the day included some deer, fish in the fish ladder, and some miserable fishermen (or fisher people, or line snappers, or bait beaters, or fishless -----).
Later on we saw some red-tailed hawks, evening deer, and a beautiful sunset.

Another long, full and satisfying day :O) The adventure continues…
