Supper's ready - Goffen

The Rock

Me cooking dinner on the rock two days ago. Unfortunately the old stove has to go. It leaks smoke like an old locomotive for an hour each time we fire it up. (The chimney has just been grinded down for painting, its not supposed to be that ugly)

Glad you saved it. One of my friends had one in his cabin in the mountains that he replaced with a newer model. The old one he kept and set it outside on his balcony. It makes for a great area heater during cold evenings.

The stove is now saved.

After we tossed out two other completely ruined ovens (so the draught in the chimney improved) the smoke problems with this one disappeared, so it will remain in use.

Not exactly micro waves or induction. Looks a bit like the stove my grandmother had. Nostalgic piece indeed. Great.

We have a similar wood-burning cookstove on our cabin. It's not in use anymore, but it was in use for some years before electricity, and used as a stand-by in times the el was unsteady. I've never seen it in use, as in this picture.

Looks very homey and inviting. Gotta love that wood-burning cookstove! The chimney will look so nice when it's painted and bright - but the unpainted look gives it an interesting textual effect - rather like stucco.

Around my part of the world, The Rock refers to Newfoundland.

Nice, how you handled the difficult lighting situation with some fill-in flash. I'm liking these pics of The Rock.

Now that is nostalgia! My Grandma Renfro cooked on a wood burning stove and made the best pies and stuffing in the world! I think hers was a bit bigger than yours but very simular. Oh, and only a single round pipe for the smoke about 12" around I think? Love your photo and the memories.
