Seams Adjustment

I went to a WW2 re-enactment event today. Sadly, due to circumstances beyond my control I was limited to taking very few pictures.

Watching the film 'Battle of Britain' last night and taking in the scenes today made me realise firstly,
how close Britain came to being over-run by the Nazis in 1940. Only the bravery of the RAF with their Spitfires held the line.
And secondly, I realise how lucky I am not to have been called up to fight a war, and be left with the physical and mental
scars as a result. They were not a special generation but rather ordinary men and women called upon to do something special for us all.

I guess this picture celebrates the thought that with the distance of time, we can look back and enjoy some of the lighter moments of that period.
And that means freedom won through.

Very touching your comment and this image,
well, you could not have chosen better to reflect a not so distant past
for some and an era for others...

Amazing the way the explanation drew loads of meaningful comments on a picture that could have been very "normal" had it not been for the explanition.
Well done on a picture that turned out to be so though provoking

Good thoughts, John. I have viewed many documentories & will always have great respect for the sheer determination of those who would not to allow one maniac & a few of his weak followers to win. Those in Europe who bravely fought underground, defeating their enemies in silence & those who died at the hands of incredible cruelty must always be remembered. The series still available " The World At War " is something very worth watching.
My mother told me during the war stockings were very hard to come by in Australia & some girls would draw lines down the backs of their legs with eyebrow pencils to make it look like they were wearing stockings :)

Very fine shot, John, well seen and done. Great reminder of the past and the heroes.

BTW - Polish pilots played a significant role in the Battle of Britain

A great shot, I bet this was a welcome sight for those lads that came home all those years ago. Its a shame we havn't learned our lesson and idiots like the BNP still get votes. Sorry I'm was off into a political rant there :-)

I love it. I have pictures and memories of my sisters and my mother in these kind of stockings. I remember one sister always having her crooked.
And, yes, they were not called "the greatest generation" for nothing.
