The sunrise was beautiful, yellow sunlight and gray clouds. For this shot I was experimenting with a Nikon Perspective Control lens, the Nikkor 24mm PC-E. With this unique lens you can alter the focal plane in multiple dimensions so it is no longer parallel to the camera's sensor or film plane. In this shot I threw the focus to draw your eye along the Colorado River and the bluff above it. (Notice the area in focus ranges diagonally across the image.) Far from reality and the massive distances seen from this overlook, the effect created by this lens reminds me of the appearance you'd expect looking into a small diorama.
