Cranefly Orchid

Tipularia discolor. I love this orchid! There were tons of them in this particular wooded area. They are one of the few orchids to send up a leaf AFTER flowering. The leaf then persists through Winter and withers away when the flowering stalk begins to emerge. This makes them easier to find in the Winter perhaps! Most of these shots were taken with flash unfortunately, but the shade was so heavy, it was impossible to get a shot without flash.
