Mackinac Island & Fort Michilimackinac 41

Two Native Americans worked outside the Fort to give tourists insight about the early life of the Odawa, the Native Americans who lived around the Straits area. One was Levi Walker Jr. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. When we asked about him, he explained that we could check him out on the web. I did.

On the web, I learned that he is part Ottawa and Chippewa and was the mascot for the Atlanta Braves for nearly 30 years. He was Chief Noc-a-Homa (Knock a homer...) He had a tipi in center field.
It wasn't quite what I expected.

He did share a lot of information about the Odawa, but never mentioned the Braves in our conversation at the fort. It was probably a good thing.
