This ENDANGERED SPECIES is the smallest and rarest monkey found in Costa Rica. A small body size makes Squirrel Monkeys susceptable to a variety of predators across their range, including raptors (birds of prey), snakes and felids (cats). Raptors are responsible for the greatest number of predations on this species. Habitat destruction is a major factor in the reduction in numbers of the Red-backed Squirrel monkey.
