I知 very conservative and a bit chauvinist about mustard.

Bearlingham Green - Bearshire (UK)

You know me, well at least a little...I知 an open-minded lady with a good dose of non-conformism.

I adore to be considered a little outrageous too; it痴 one of the few advantages of aging.
But there are a few things I知 very firm about and I prefer not to change.

One of them is mustard.

I occasionally try many different kinds of mustard, but I generally remain faithful to my favourite brand, definitely British!

We have to go back to 1814;in that year George III was on the throne and Wellington was preparing to defeat Napoleon at Waterloo...and one of my ancestors, Jillian Eunice Bear, was on very...uhm, familiar terms with a young flour miller, called Jeremiah Colman.

Jillian Bear had a solid business sense and she persuaded her friends to take over a mustard manufacturing business based on the river Tas, four miles south of Norwich.

They founded the new firm J & J Colman.

The partnership prospered and in 1836, a London branch was established.

Since then all the members of the Bear family have used only this brand of mustard for their daily cooking.

I don稚 claim it痴 the best one absolutely, but I think we have to be faithful to something that gives us points of reference.

By the way, I take advantage of my diary page today to tell a dear friend of mine that we have to trust the postal service despite all evidence to the contrary....

My favorite mustard is French's Classic Yellow. How bland am I, Aunt Violet?
The history of the J & J Colman firm is so interesting...especially Jillian Eunice Bear connection with the company!
