The group visited the Walter House and gardens. There were two other homes on the property which we could photograph. Both of those homes were originally hunting "cabins" for wealthy friends of the owner to stay in during hunting season. There are about 15 acres of wooded gardens on the property. We were not allowed to photograph in the main mansion. The estate is owned by former Minnesota Viking's owner Mike Lynn and his wife. The home is open for tours at 1 in the afternoon. In the spring a Pilgrimage is held when many of the antebellum homes are open for tours.
As I understand it, Gen. Grant did not order Holly Springs burned during the Civil War. Apparently his army was treated better than in most places, so he spared the town. I think they said there were 60 homes from the period still in existence. 24 are pictured in a tour guide. They rotate which ones are open during the pilgrimage each spring.
