This is the fountain in the center of the lobby of the Peabody hotel. It's a long standing tradition for ducks to come down from their homes on the roof of the hotel to play in the fountain during the day. At 5 p.m. the "Duck Master" leads them out of the fountain on a red carpet to return to the roof on the hotel elevator. It started as a joke in the early part of the 20th century when hunters used live ducks as decoys when hunting. Some guys thought it would be fun to put them in the fountain. It caused so much attention that it became a daily ritual for the hotel.
