20090616 221 Common Loons.jpg

Mississippi Lake

Loon antics to ward, or scare off perceived intruders. In addition to loud calls, the loon also treads water and flaps its wings as well as run across the water, all to make itself look fierce and thus discourage any would be intruder from entering its claimed nesting territory.
