My son, Will, has been very ill for a week now and after two visits and three phone calls to his doctor, he was not getting better, but worse. His doctor had diagnosed H1N1 influenza, but without the test to confirm. His condition reached the point where his tonsils were so swollen and inflamed he could no longer swallow without great pain. He stopped taking in fluids and I could see that he was quickly becoming dehydrated. At 12:30 am we decided that a trip to the ER was in order. They tested him for strep (negative) and flu (negative) and mono (positive!). At least we know what we are dealing with now. They gave him meds for the tonsil pain and swelling and he is feeling better now, but complete recovery will take a while.
