We spent an enjoyable morning watching and shooting the mallard ducklings on a local pond. This little one was taking a drink and like most babies dribbled some of the water down its' 'chin'. Mallard duckling facts: The down of the ducklings is not naturally waterproof. They get the waterproofing for their down from their mother. The young gradually lose their down, grow their feathers and in about 10 weeks their plumage looks like that of the mallard hen.
