Britain seems to have a great revival of steam preservation societies. As our tour guide said, these societies are for boys of all ages. We rode one today near Darlington. It was really cool. This is the tank engine coming into the station for our outward journey. As a great lover of the "Thomas the Tank Engine" series, I always wondered what the heck a tank engine was. Today I found out. It is a steam engine that carries its own water as opposed to a water tank in a tender pulled behind. You can see the bulges on either side of the boiler. These are the water tank. Great fun. I would do this again.
