These two nestlings are several days old and anxiously awaiting mama's return. When hatched, the baby hummingbirds are completely naked and about an inch long, weighing in at a mere .65 grams. The female hummingbird stays on the nest when the baby hummingbirds are small, only leaving for a few minutes each hour to look for food. The the baby hummingbirds are ready to leave the nest in about three weeks and once these two learned to fly they left the area and we didn't see them again.
