this does look a bit like a calabash pipe
this species is widely distributed
it is not carnivorous despite its fearsome appearances, but does emit a carrion odor
bugs are lured to its reproductive bits in the globe at the rear
in their struggle to escape they pick up pollen
its mission accomplished, the flower then fades, releasing its prey which survive their captivity & carry its pollen away
