American Mink

Northern Vancouver Island

It's not uncommon to see mink in or near any body of water. They can be hunting for food or traveling within their territory. We saw this one moving through the rocks along a boat ramp going into Port Hardy Bay. Mink trivia: Wildlife studies have found that mink are very territorial animals and a male mink will not tolerate another male within its territory, but can be less aggressive towards females. Generally, the territories of both the male and female mink are separate, but a female's territory may occasionally overlap or even be totally within a male's territory.
