Today Wanda and I took a ride up the canyon to do a "drum count" in some of our favorite grouse hunting locations. It also gave Timber a chance to get out and run. A "drum count" is a nice walk in the forest listening for male ruffed grouse making their breeding sound. They fill the air sacks in their chest and beat their wings super fast. It makes a low noise that sounds like someone starting a gas generator. It is so low you feel it more than hear it.
