The Eisenhower Memorial Tunnel is located 60 miles west of Denver. It is 1.7 miles long
and at 11,000 feet, is the highest vehicular tunnel in the world. The first bore opened
in March 1973, restricting traffic to 2-way, single lane. This picture was shot 4 months
after the tunnel opened. The second bore opened in 1979.
