I visited Lake Maggiore many years ago, long before I knew anything about expressive photography (1958) and I remember shoting a scene on Kodachrome very much like one. However, my slide included too much -- beginners always fill half the picture with useless sky -- so the contemplative mood of such a scene was diminished. You limit both sky and water here, to stress instead the interplay of the hazy hills and bring the eye to rest on the single small ship in the distance. This image reminds me a scene I photographed on the Yangtze River in 2004:http://www.pbase.com/image/31313915
Both this image and mine remind me of the romantic "Hudson River School" painters back in the 19th century. Both are full of timeless atmosphere and mood.
