"Contemplation" Before (left) and After (right)
What I like about photography is the ability to capture detail and realism. At the same time
what I enjoy about other forms of art is what is sometimes left to the imagination--it is what
happens between your ears instead of in front of your eyes.
All of the digital art I do begins with a photograph of a real thing. Whether the source image
is a sunset, a colorful pinwheel in a garden, or multi-colored lights swirling in the darkness,
the process always starts with a photograph of something real. So what I am striving to do with
my work is to strip away some of the detail and realism of the source, and apply some degree of
digital manipulation (sometimes a little, sometimes a lot!) so that there is something that speaks
to the viewer's imagination, and hopefully touches the viewer in a way that the literal image
could not.
