Spring on the River Teign

view map

It is Spring 2009 at the Victorian plunge pools near the weir beneath castle Drogo
just before the river moves into the gorge leading down to Fingle Bridge.
The new greenness of the beech leaves complement the fresh water which is clearing now
after some showers up on the moor.
I think this is the best time of year (before the leaves turn dark and cut out much of the light)
to enjoy the walk from Dog Marsh bridge to Fingle Bridge. 2 miles there and 2 miles back but if
you time it right you can enjoy something to eat and drink at Fingle Bridge.
The walk down river on the left hand side is the prettiest but it has a very steep flight of
uneven steps half way along (OK if you are reasonably fit).
On the other side after crossing the little suspension bridge climbing up over the wall
(4 or 5 steps of moderate difficulty) you walk a stone lane leading along the
Deer Wall for about 100 metres or so to a wooden gate where the scenery opens up
and you can continue on to Fingle Bridge.
