Early 1950's - the National Airlines Headquarters building east of LeJeune Road at MIA

Miami, Florida

Thank you to Jim Urquhart Jr. for contributing this great old photo taken by his dad Captain James Urquhart who flew for National from 1946 to 1977 and the DC-4's to the DC-10's.

George T. Baker, owner and chairman of National Airlines, donated the land and the hangar to the Dade County Public Schools (DCPS) in the early 1960's for use as an aviation training school when National moved to Dade County Port Authority property on the west side of LeJeune Road and north of the new entrance to Miami International Airport's new 20th Street Terminal. DCPS named the school George T. Baker Aviation School in return for Mr. Baker's generosity to our local public schools and the school has provided top quality training for local and out of town aviation students. Many of Baker Aviation School's graduates have successfully found employment working for this country's airlines and airlines from other countries around the world.

Thank you guest from 5-JUN-2017. I should have added the second paragraph which is now part of the comments under the photo. Sometimes I think that everyone knows that NAL's old hangar/headquarters became the George T. Baker Aviation School but if they weren't around in the 50's and 60's then they probably don't have a clue.
