Jerome -- located high atop Cleopatra Hill -- is between Prescott and Flagstaff. The historic copper mining town isn't a ghost town...quite. It was once known as the wickedest town in the west. THe town was founded in 1876. The huge Phelps Dodge Mine closed in 1953, but its remnants are still around, scarring the arid landscape. Less than 450 people still live in Jerome. The once thriving mining camp now caters mostly to tourists.
