This is a photo of a part of the "Confederate Memorial Hall" on the Vanderbilt University campus, and is the basis of a huge present controversy that will likely continue in the courts system for some time in the future. The controversy concerns the fact that Vanderbilt University decided to remove the term "Confederate" from the building name (the building is a residence hall). The United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) has now sued Vanderbilt for trying to rename the building on the basis of breach of contract. The UDC contributed $50,000 to the former George Peabody College for Teachers (now part of Vanderbilt) to build the dormitory.
