Serial xrays of a two year old child with a badly displaced femur fracture
showing gradual realignment of the bone over the course of 6 months. The bone
was not set and no treatment other than a cast was used
The image on the left was taken at the time of injury, with the leg in a fiberglass cast.
The middle image was at 6 weeks and the right image at 6 months post injury.
Children rarely need surgery for these types of fractures because dramatic remodeling
(Straightening) of the bone during the healing process is possible in the very young.
