6234 Wild Dog (pack leader)

First time with the 1.4x on the 100-400 in KNP.

Spoiled it somewhat for me as 5minutes into the Park a pack of wild dogs
came down the gravel road and my manual focus skills ( or rather lack of... :) )
with the 1.4x meant that I could only salvage 1 of the images to some extent...

Andrew, great opportunity to see Wild Dog, you are very lucky. Pity you didn't get a picture of the whole pack, maybe you need to practise you lens changing speed. I think the pros can do this in a second. I have given up trying to manually focus with the 1.4X, my results were too eratic and then wasted the opportunity. I personally believe that the new cameras do not have the right ground glass, or features for manual focussing. On my Canon AE-1 film camera, I it has a ground glass that shimmers when out of focus, as well as the rangefinder split image in the middle. For now, have taped up the contacts of the zoom... until I can get a 500mm! :-)
