On the Butterfield Trail, Stein's (pronounced 'steens') Peak Station is one of the best preserved of the Butterfield Stage stations. Stein's Peak is prominent in the background. Within the compound the larger area was for horses and there were 3 or 4 enclosed rooms, like the one visible on the left, for occupancy. The Stage line operated from 1858 to 1861. Not far behind Stein's peak is the site of an Indian attack marked by a gravestone.
