I was lucky and caught the female too! This pair didn't wander far apart, even popping up close to each other after a dive. Buffleheads are constantly active, all their movements being energetic and abrupt, making them one of the more difficult ducks to photograph. I have several shots of just the tail feathers going underwater when I tried to catch the duck diving.
