Bear Cub

While out driving in the woods in eastern Tehama County back in 2006, I came across a family fishing on Battle Creek who were waving their arms and flagging me to stop. The shouted bear, bear, bear! They saw my work truck and thought I should do something. They had 2 small boys under 10 years old. They were from the city and had never seen a bear outside the zoo. I looked for a bear where they were pointing and saw nothing. I have seen many bears over the years, and I was looking for a large bear. When I looked closer, I spotted this little bear and grabbed my camera. The family watched me photograph the bear with my point and shoot digital. Immediately after 3-4 quick shots, we all left the area to give the bear space. I sent the family my photos and they sent me an e-mail to thank me and to say both boys had the pictures hanging in their rooms.

Wyman, what a great picture you took here. It looks so cute, this little cub. For a point an shot camera it's quite a decent picture. Congrats for your behaviour, you seem to know wildlife, that they need space. Usually people, especially the ones which never have seen bears outside of zoo's, go way too close to the bears. It was about 2.5 years ago, when I first encountered bears in the wilderness in B.C. Before that, i unfortunately saw them only in zoo's. You acted the way all people should, give them space and respect the wildlifes need for having their privacy. Thank you Wyman. V
