Beer Can Targets

Cold Bay Air Force Station, AK

One bitterly cold day, Gene Smith and I decided to target shoot at the gravel pit near the dump. The NCO Club had what seemed like thousands of cans of Falstaff beer that had turned bad and tasted like the cans. The Club was disposing of them, so Gene and I took a few cases of the beer to the gravel pit to use as targets. Here he is setting up cans of beer to shoot with his Colt 45 semi-automatic. The orange suit he is wearing is a surplus flight suit that he had purchased for five dollars. Although I didn't quite know what I would do with them, I bought two suits just like it. Another photo of this series shows one of mine during a backpacking trip in the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming a few years later. I wore that one in a rainstorm at about 10,000 feet. My brother, Wal, wore the other. Yay, I found a use for them!
