The Swaminarayan Sampradaya was founded by Lord Swaminarayan (Sahajanand Swami, 1781-1830) on December 31, 1801. It belongs to the Vaishnava tradition, one of four main denominations of the Hindu religion.

It focuses its faith on liberation through total devotion, bhakti, to the Supreme God developed through dharma (righteousness), jnana (wisdom) and vairagya (detachment).
