I found balls on the beaches of the Izembek Lagoon, and suspended them from a pipe above my bed. The glass balls had washed onto the shore after detaching from Japanese fishing nets. Some of the balls found on the beach were much larger, but were scarce. I was never fortunate enough to find one of the large ones before they were picked up by others. When leaving Alaska, I brought home those balls that were above my bed. They still inhabit a prominent place in my home office. The bedspread was sent from home. I had asked for a colorful bedcovering to replace the USAF olive drab issue that was on the bed when I arrived. For a self portrait I posed in my blues, but did not actually wear them after arriving at the site. My daily uniform was the shirt and pants that made up 1505's. They were washable, whereas the blues needed dry cleaning. We had no dry cleaners available. However, even if we had, I probably wouldn't have worn the blues. I wore them only for a picture, which I snapped using the camera's self-timer.
