Sarah Winchester was under 5 feet tall, and in her later years
had a difficult time raising her feet more than a few inches
off the floor. Many of the stairways in the mansion are virtual
equivalents of modern-day wheelchair ramps, winding back and forth
with steps only a couple inches tall. Very weird to walk on when
you're used to using auto-pilot to negotiate normal stairs. . . .
