I was driving around today and I got to thinking about gas prices and some other stuff. You have probably noticed around your house that gas prices have risen while the price of oil is still in the 30's. This is no coincidence. This is because your US government has allowed oil company mergers over the last 20 years. There is no competition. Yeah, big oil will say that there is, but that is crap. Oil companies don't have to collude to keep prices up because they are led my smart people and the barriers to entry are very high. This is unlike the airlines which apparently are led by nincompoops and anybody with a little cash can get an airplane and start flying. So it goes.

On another subject, here in the colonies we have a new plan to spends trillions to get the economy to recover. I note that these are the same b*st*rds that got us here in the first place. I must tell you that they are only going to screw it up more. Not only are they going to screw it up more, but they are taking us down the primrose path to socialism. There should be a law against career politicians, but remember who makes the laws!

John, socialism for the rich being replaced by socialism for the poor.

Dave - almost right. There is more than enough regulation, it is simply not enforced because legislators look the other way. You can thank Barney Frank and Chris Dodd for the meltdown of the housing market. They deregulated our way into it. They were also on the take from the lenders in one way or another. I am sure there are others from the other side of the aisle as well. So, how do you trust these career criminal legislators to run a socialist system. Why, exactly the same way and, guess what, we lose. Again.

John, I'm with you on the subject of not enough competition. We could probably complain in harmony about free trade too. Regarding socialism: we are in the present mess because capitalism has been allowed to run amok (too little regulation and too much greed). I hope the present administration can pull us out of this nightmare and prevent another one. A few days ago I paid $2.199 per gallon for unleaded regular (Chevron).
