Fermenter CIP: 1 pound of lye in 5 gal hot water are placed in small cylindroconical and pumped through check valve 'T', hose and stainless pipe to CIP spray ball in dome of fermenter. As small tank is emptied 3-way valve (connected to pump input) is thrown to connect pump input to line from fermenter drain thus establishing recirculation (this is the position shown in photo). At completion of recirculation pump is shut off and three way valves manipulated to drain fermeneter. Exhaustion is facilitated by compressed air (from yellow hose) admitted through spray ball. Lye is followed by hot water rinse and then recirculation of 200 mL of phosphoric + 200 mL nitric acid in 5 gallons of warm water in turn followed by cool water rinses.
