This shot is not cropped, but it has been resampled. The original is 4288 X 2848, or a full 12 MP. What
you see here is only 900 X 600, or about 0.5 MP, ie, only about 4% of the full resolution delivered by the
camera. Some detail will inevitably be lost when compressing an image down to a size suitable for PBase.
The shot HAS been Photoshopped; however, nothing was done in Photoshop that would affect the scientific
integrity of the shot. The animal is alive and undisturbed, in its natural state. Minor color and contrast
adjustments were made, as well as normal sharpening and noise reduction as dictated by the camera settings.
The next two images are details taken from this one; they reveal the kind of detail that can be found
in a high-res original. Another reason to seek high resolution is for printing: this one can be printed
at up to 14 inches at magazine quality, or 20-30 inches for a wall-mounted or calendar print.
