Most of the supplies for the town and radar site came via sea to this dock located on Cold Bay. The bay, itself, opened into the Pacific Ocean. There were no highways to the tip of the Alaska Peninsula, so commodities came by way of either sea or air. For a time, this dock was ruled unsafe, and was closed due to the need for repairs. It was reported during that time that one of our airmen had fallen off of the pier, hit his head on the way down, and had to be fished unconscious from the water. I was not present when that happened, but I did see the gash on the airman's head when he later came to work.
