Mongolian Wild Horse

(rare and endangered)
The world population of these horses are all descended from 9 of the 31 horses in captivity in 1945. These 9 horses were mostly descended from
approximately 15 captured around 1900. A cooperative venture between the Zoological Society of London and Mongolian scientists
has resulted in successful reintroduction of these horses from zoos into their natural habitat in Mongolia.

Press Release on June 28, 2007 - The Toronto Zoo is thrilled to announce the birth of a female Przewalski's horse foal on June 22, 2007.
Przewalski's horses were once declared extinct in the wild, although re-introduction efforts have taken place.
At present, the Zoo's herd consists of seven animals, with a total of 150 of these horses in captivity in North America. They have huge fields and stables
to roam in, as this zoo is one of the largest in the world.

Excellent capture, Carol. I know that area well at the zoo, and these animals have a terrific place set aside for them. You are very lucky to have such close access to this great zoo.

It's wonderful to read a 'success story.' That humans are making such efforts to revitalize
a species once thought to be extinct. Nice shot and thank you for the info, Carol.

They are called horses but look more like ponies.
I wonder how many hands they are? I'll have to look that up.
How wonderful for you to see this breed CIS.
