Cropped from a long lens off the scarp above Hatshepsut. We were coming down the steep scree on the walk out of the Theban Hills. It is a bit nasty in spots and the photography became rather ragged as a result. Shows Mentuhotep in the afternoon raking sun, left centre of shot. It has been argued that the rubble hump in the forecourt was a pyramidal structure. This aside the ascending ramp, the massive podium and the pillared arcades suggest themselves as models for Hatshepsut. Lenka has mentioned the tunnel under Mentuhotep, it is tempting to speculate that the failed attempt to drive an extention from KV20 under the cliffs behind and under Hatshepsut was to emulate the tunnel.
