The U.S.Air Airbus departed New York La Guardia Airport at 3:25pm, January 15, 2009, on a scheduled passenger flight to Charlotte, North Carolina.
By 3:27, the flight had climbed to 3200ft and was in contact with the New York tracon facility when the flight crew reported that the aircraft had struck a flock of birds, and that both engines had failed.
The aircraft began a descent and ditched into the Hudson River between Manhattan and New Jersey at 3:31pm.
Passengers evacuated onto the wings and were plucked from the icy water by numerous rescue boats. All 155 crew and passengers aboard survived.
