Vic Cooke

I was born in 1943, which means I have been 45-and-holding for a while now, LOL! My
home for the past 20 years has been in Mentor, Ohio located east of Cleveland on the
shoreline of Lake Erie. My wife, Carol, and I have been married for 35 years and we have
four adult children (three sons and one daughter).

My growing-up years were spent in Northern New Jersey, and later Western
Pennsylvania, where I became mildly interested in photography during high school..
While attending college, I joined the Photo Club and learned the basics of full-manual
SLR and medium-format camera use, shot composure, wet-processing and printing (all
b&w then).

My sheepskins were in Liberal Arts and Mechanical Engineering, and professionally I
worked in various management positions in Engineering, Research, Sales and Marketing
in the automotive and petrochemical industries. My photo interests remained mostly
casual, and I was satisfied with p&s 35mm equipment for recording travels, vacations
and family events. Upon retirement, I gravitated back toward photography as an interest
that I finally had more time to pursue.

My first digital camera was an Olympus D460z, purchased in 2000. Intended to simply
“augment” my film p&s camera, it instead opened up the freedom and satisfactions of the
digital photo world to me! I was delighted with the quality achievable with the D460 and
with the cost constraints of film photography removed, it soon relit the old fires of
photography for the pleasure of it. Before long I wanted more flexibility and control than
the little D460 could offer, and when pricing collapsed on the C-2100uz it looked like too
good a thing a pass up! How right that was! I ‘ve had mine since June 2001.

I conceived the “Daisy-Sight” idea as a means to assist the Uzi in high-speed panning
situations that I encountered in race photography, and was pleased to see others find
some use for it also. Ultimately, I augmented the Uzi with an E-100RS, used mainly for
sports photography (and especially racing) where it’s high shutter speeds, precapture and
rapid sequence capabilities remove shutter-lag and pan-lock concerns entirely.

I use all three cameras, depending on the situation, and have found this hobby and the
association with new friends that it has fostered to be an enormously satisfying part of my
life that I would never have imagined just a few short years ago!
